Get REAL teaching experience (over 20 years with the GRE) from master teacher Mark Wahl. His students regularly provide glowing reviews of his training skill, personal approach and humor.
(Caution: Other franchised test prep companies quite often utilize instructors short on real teaching experience, with their GRE skills, concepts and training ideas gained from relatively quick company trainings. Additional skills are just learned on the job from using the manuals. We receive numerous comments about how much more relevant, engaging, in-depth and right-on Mark's presentations are compared to other courses attended.)

Mark is a nationally recognized math learning specialist and a multi-published author (See MarkWahl.com). Because of his expertise in tapping the multiple intelligences and both hemispheres of the brain for learning, his GRE Prep Course is highly successful in the math, verbal and critical writing areas. (His best scores: 800 Math, 790 Verbal, 6.0 Critical Writing.) His other Basic Math Refresher Class removes rust and fear from old math skills to better build readiness for the GRE course strategies. While arranged through the UW Women's Center, the class also strongly welcomes men. Indeed there are unique challenges women face from several male biases hardwired into the GRE test structure (countered by class strategies), the male attendees also widely herald the training's effectiveness.

And oh yes, the price: Just
$195 total, no tax! The one-evening power-packed Basic Math Refresher is just $65 additional. And the low fee supports the non-profit University of Washington Women's Center which provides many services and courses in the Seattle area. OK, you are expected to buy your own study materials instead of the course providing them, but that may cost all of $40-$100. Mark Wahl carefully guides you in making the best purchases of materials that meet your individual needs.

So sign up for expert training, good accessibility to the right extra study resources, and a more personal, incisive, approach with less fluff than the corporate blue chip classes...and a supremely affordable price. By the way, it's effective! See a sample of our many positive testimonials below.

Some of the many testimonials:

  • "I highly recommend Mark's GRE preparation course. I've taken several of his classes, including the Basic Math Refresher, and I find them extremely helpful. He really targets the math classes to help build the skills needed for the quantitative section of the course. I had enrolled in the Kaplan course prior to taking Mark's class, but I found that Mark's course better suited my needs. I was disappointed with the level of instruction Kaplan provided. Mark's years of experience outshine the competition. The classes are fun and he packs a lot of information into each session." --Barbara Warden
  • "I took your GRE prep course in early September.  What a good move! 37 years out from my last similar testing experience, I was pretty darn nervous, especially about the math.Your strategy tips, as well as the studying I did using the Princeton Review text, helped me get through the test today.  My first trial run using the Princeton Review CD-ROM was 390.  Today, after review and study, I probably know very little more math, but I scored a 510 on the math test. I wasn't worried about the verbal, and I did well there, a 700 score. Thank you for your excellent advice and tools ...  I do like to do well on tests."--Leslie Spain, Ferndale, WA.
  • "I attended [Mark's] GRE prep series, in addition to [his four-hour] extra math course. My initial scores on a practice exams were around 700- (300 ish math and 400 ish verbal) after not having cracked a school book in about 12 years. I just sat for the exam this past Saturday and my combined score was 1310 (720 math and 590 verbal). I'm extremely pleased with the results, and wouldn't have been able to get there with out the math tutelage of Mark Wahl." --Kathy Richardson,  Seattle
  • "I took your math anxiety workshop about 15 years ago, your evening classes after that, and then your GRE prep course about 4 years ago. I finally decided I really DO want to be a teacher and just graduated from Antioch's Master of Arts in Ed program and got my K-8 WA Teacher certificate. I never would've believed it, but I want to be a math specialist! Your teaching strategies were powerful and life-changing for me." --Leslie Claussen, Seattle
  • "Hi [to the Women's Center]-- I just wanted to say thank you so much for offering a reasonably priced GRE prep class -- I took Mark Wahl's 3-session prep class plus basic math review and found all four classes to be very helpful and practical. It has been several years since I attended UW as a full time student, and I really appreciate that you offer this course to the general public. The class was recommended to me by a friend, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who was getting ready to take the GREs." --Holly Taylor, Tacoma, WA
  • (RE: Private GRE coaching) "This enclosed gift is a small token of my appreciation for all the GRE Prep help gave me in January. I gave you less than 7 days from start to finish to get my [verbal] scores up and my verbal went up 120 points! Within 1.5 months of meeting with you I've already received two acceptance letters! I will definitely recommend you to everyone I know who is studying for the GRE! Thanks again, Jenny Abramson, Seattle, WA."
  • I just wanted to thank you for your wonderful GRE prep course. It has given me the tools and confidence for the exam. I appreciate your diverse teaching methods, unique ‘tricks,’ and attention to detail as it meets the needs of each individual student. Thank you for making this fantastic course so accessible on all levels. --Sincerely, Lindsay McClelland, Seattle

Course Description:

The GRE Prep Course and Basic Math Refresher are taught by Mark Wahl, director of Mark Wahl Learning Services. He is a national known math learning specialist, teacher trainer, and  multi-published author. Thousands of students have taken his course and found the content vital for improving their scores and attitude in the computerized GRE examination process. His classes are dynamic, humorous, and surprising, containing ideas gleaned over several years from many sources and from his own insights and experience. Strategies tap both the right and left brain for effective test tactics that avoid the tricks that the ETS test authors weave in. (They have the erroneous belief that avoiding tricks is a major sign of a promising grad school career!)
Success on the computer-adaptive GRE test, while helped by the good factual knowledge provided, is especially enhanced by a strategic approach for outsmarting the questions and preparing oneself emotionally, physically and psychologically. The training generates a strong performance attitude, recognizing that many defeat themselves with negative visualizations before they even enter the test room. Mark Wahl, a dynamic teacher who has empowered students for GRE accomplishment for over twenty years, hones math concepts with silly stories, introduces shortcut strategies using visual tactics, examines subtle verbal traps, and offers secrets that entice essay graders to raise ratings on an analytical writing piece.

NOTE: Many have asked about whether there was a recent GRE test revision -- It was cancelled in Fall of 2007 by ETS! The current form will continue into the known future.  However a "pinch" (perhaps 1-2 math questions and 1-2 verbal questions) of new-format questions are being phased into current math and verbal tests. They are just tweaks on present format types, very easy to adjust to; Mark's students will be briefed on these.

NOTE: If you need specific improvement in math, foundational math skill rebuilding is available through the Basic Math Refresher ($65), a single, power-packed, optionally-booked evening class taught by Mark Wahl.

Instructional Outline of GRE Series:

Day 1: Introduction to the computer test format, examination strategies, ways of changing test attitudes, the most effective study resources, and a strong introduction to math strategies.
Day 2: Effective strategies for all three formats in all the GRE math areas.
Day 3: Powerful ways to crack the four verbal question formats and the two analytic writing tasks on the test; further test attitude work and study guidelines are also given.
NOTE: This course assumes a functioning basic math ability. If you feel you are too rusty in math, were never very successful in math, or have math fear, please consider the single-session
Basic Math Refresher Course ($65)
